Twynstra Gudde & Oxand have developed a two-day training course on leadership in asset management. It’s designed for anyone who needs leadership development and works in a management organization.
Two-day training Leadership in asset management
Does your organization work with asset management? Are you ready for the next step? Ready to further professionalize and meet the challenges of tomorrow?
Applying asset management correctly is a major challenge for many organizations. Ultimately, it’s you, as the leader in your organization, who capitalizes on new opportunities and guides changes, both formally and informally, in the right direction. This shift involves shifting from working from the content to adaptively managing the challenges, all within the context of a management organization that learns to adapt quickly. These challenges demand different ways of working for management organizations. The new asset management organization demands a broad focus on the challenge, (re)connections, and new skills. If you want to connect, improve, and achieve sustainability, this requires different behavior. The driving forces and drivers of “the new way” are instrumental in this. Therefore, it’s crucial that managers, experts, and advisors are ready for the new challenges facing management organizations.
By participating in this program, you’ll prepare for a leading role in asset management. Will you be the change?
The changes around you
All asset managers, such as Rijkswaterstaat (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), provinces, water boards, municipalities, property managers, housing associations, and utility companies, have invested heavily in recent years to organize the management of their assets as effectively and efficiently as possible. A growing number of managers realize that sustainability, nature, and water quality are also part of asset management and that these aspects must be integrated into the organization.
Another change that is on the horizon is the increasing digitalization and automation. More and more systems generate valuable data. This data is used, for example, to inform road users about traffic jams, but also about the condition of assets or to support the development of new policies. Managers are expected to adapt to these new possibilities and organize the management of this data. Technical management and maintenance alone are often no longer sufficient; an integrated approach and the integration of policy ambitions are required. Regarding the area to be replaced, challenges such as circularity, climate adaptation, and inclusion are relevant. As a manager, you must engage in dialogue with users, and an integrated approach is expected. Management and maintenance are also increasingly high on the (administrative) agenda. The challenges are increasing, and with them, the importance of management and maintenance. Explicit working, in which management organizations operate predictably and integratedly and are reliable partners, is becoming increasingly important.
What does this require of you as an asset manager?
The challenges fall on the asset manager within the management organization. After all, the asset manager is responsible for the assets. Technical skills alone are no longer sufficient. The roles of manager, advisor, and administrator within a management organization are becoming more complex. New forms of leadership, behavior, and other skills are expected. To respond to the challenges of the future, the asset manager must ensure that the management organization continues to develop and is willing to continually reinvent itself. This enables the asset manager to:
- To act at both a strategic and tactical level.
- To look beyond boundaries, but to be “environmentally aware” and to organize and integrate better.
- To act in accordance with the organization’s goals and interests.
- To be able to organize and integrate collaboration.
- To make comprehensive decisions.
- To act with administrative sensitivity and to connect with the policy cycle.
- To work in an area-oriented manner.
- To be a leader who knows how to deal with interests and powerlessness and who can communicate and collaborate better.
- To enable others to develop optimally.
