Context
The Syndicat des Eaux d'Île-de-France (SEDIF), a public body created in 1923, is the largest public water service in France and Europe, supplying drinking water to over 4.8 million residents across seven departments of the Île-de-France region. Since 1 January 2025 it has delegated operation of the service to Franciliane, a dedicated company wholly owned by Veolia and created specifically to run the SEDIF service under the permanent control of elected officials, on a twelve-year contract. Franciliane's Asset Management Department is accountable for the performance, longevity and completeness of that estate, and steers it to ISO 55001, the asset management standard named in its contractual framework. It set itself the objective of holding one reliable, continuously updated reference for the estate, so that renewal could be planned on evidence rather than reconstructed study by study.
