Context
Opened in 1965 and run by a Franco-Italian grouping owned in equal shares by ATMB on the French side and SITMB on the Italian, the 11.6 km Mont Blanc tunnel carries some 5,000 vehicles a day between the two countries. More than 11,000 dynamic items of equipment keep it safe and available, looked after by a Franco-Italian team of some 280 people, 80 of them professional firefighters.
